In an Early Childhood Education and Care setting, professional development is essential to keep skills and knowledge up to date and keep pace with industry changes and legislative requirements.
Foodcore is committed to providing and promoting appropriate training for cooks and educators. We deliver workshops and other short courses, using qualified and experienced industry trainers, in conjunction with other government and non-government health agencies.

Foodcore’s Food Safety Supervisor training has been tailored to ECEC’s and includes ECEC industry-specific content, designed with the needs of our students in mind. All assessments are completed on the day. During the lunch break you will be able to network with the Foodcore team and other ECEC representatives, this is often when you form some great connections with like-minded people.
The following units of competency in the SITSS00069 – Food Safety Supervision Skill Set are completed on the day:
- SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
- SITXFSA006 – Participate in safe food handling practices
The key components of the course are:
- Introduction to Food Safety
- Food Contamination Hazards and Prevention
- Personal Hygiene and Responsibilities for Food Handler
- Safe Food Handling and Storage
- Food Safety Programs
This is a full day course delivered either face to face or virtually all course materials, morning tea and lunch are provided.
Face to Face
- Location: Department of Education, 151 Royal Street East Perth
- Time: 9.00am – 4.00pm (arrive by 8.45am for a 9.00am start)
- What to bring and wear: Notebook, pen, water bottle; you must wear enclosed footwear.
Virtual
- Location: You will be sent a link to join the training a few days prior as well as other instructions.
- Registering 10 days prior allows us time to post you the work book and manual, less time than this will require you to print these resources.
- Time: 8.00am – 3.30pm
Course fees are subsidised for Foodcore members:
- Foodcore and/or Food Foundations member: $295 (plus GST) = $324.50
- Non-member: $360 (plus GST) = $396.00

Foodcore Nutrition Services delivers this training on behalf of NAQ Nutrition Training who is an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO 110074).
Completing FoodSafe Food Handler training is essential for all staff in ECEC’s who are responsible for preparing and serving food.
Training can be completed in a number of ways: we recommend the following options:
- Free access for Foodcore and/or Food Foundations members – Foodcore has a FoodSafe® subscription which provides FREE access to the online training for members only. Simply email us with your name, centre name and role (e.g. cook, chef, educator ) and we will send you a unique access code and instructions – foodcore@education.wa.edu.au
- Search your local council website or contact your local council as they may provide FREE access to the training
- FoodSafe® Online ($35) and FoodSafe® training packs ($132) can be purchased from Environmental Health Australia. If you are interested in completing more advanced training Food Safety Australia have a number of online courses, such as a Food Handlers Certificate Course, fees apply.
All about Allergens for Children’s Education and Care is a course designed to help ECEC providers and staff to gain knowledge and understanding about food allergens, and to develop best practice procedures to ensure the right food is given to the right child.
This course is suitable for kitchen staff (cooks and chefs), educators and teachers working in:
- Long daycare
- Family daycare
- Preschool or kindergarten
- Outside school hours care
- Vacation and occasional care
- Other education and care services
The course takes about 60-90 minutes to complete and a certificate can be printed on completion. The course is FREE, access the course at: www.foodallergytraining.org.au
- This training should be undertaken at least every two years.
- A training register must be kept with the names of staff who complete the training and the date of completion
- Untrained staff should not be given the responsibility of preparing food for students with food
