Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), including vacation care settings play a vital role in supporting families and offer valuable opportunities for learning, growth, social and emotional development. They also provide a chance to explore new foods and build healthy eating habits.

Foodcore are working in partnership with OSHC providers to increase healthy eating and improve the wellbeing of children attending OSHC by empowering OSHC educators through capacity building activities and direct food and nutrition support.

Nourishing OSHC

In 2025, we implemented a new OSHC project designed to support educators in engaging with the children in their care. We consulted directly with OSHC Directors, Coordinators, and Educators. For example, the online survey revealed details about the food environment, what types of food are often provided and some of the challenges OSHC face (see summary results below).

Guided by this feedback, we met with OSHC providers, chatted about Foodcore support and have since developed practical tools and resources to help services create positive and nourishing food environments for children.
